My First Spartan Race

Jumping Over The Wall Obstacle

I don’t know how many La Jolla real estate agents participated in the SoCal Super Spartan Race, but I think the mindset of Realtors is perfect for this event. As a whole, most real estate agents aren’t a super-fit bunch. But we are small business owners who have to fill out a 1099 every year;) Joe DeSena, the founder of the Spartan Races has said that small business owners seem to do the best in the Spartan Races. Why is that? As a La Jolla real estate agent, I’m a small business owner. When you are a small business owner, you are your own boss. No one makes you wake up in the morning. No one tells you when to clock in or out for work. You have to roll with the punches because every day is different. Realtors deal with Murphy’s Law all the time. What can go wrong, will go wrong. This applies to the Spartan races. I thought the course this past weekend was 8 miles. No way. It ended up being 9.3 miles. The course was loaded with obstacles, balance challenges, mud holes, and much more. If you can’t handle the unexpected, Spartan Races are not for you. Neither is being a small business owner or a Realtor.

I finished 79 out of 480 participants in the Elite Wave Division. I don’t blog about my participation in the Spartan Races to brag. I do it to show people that when you face your challenges head on, they are easier to deal with. Use this attitude to deal with the current state of our nation’s economy. We all have survived this recession. We will begin to see the fruits of our labor in 2012. As Howard Schultz the CEO of Starbucks would say…Onward!!

Please check out the promotional Spartan Races video. This will keep you motivated through the day!
